Haiti and its music

This week on my way to the Ministry the driver asked me if I knew what RAM was and if I had listened to it, my answer was no as I didn't have any idea what he was talking about. Then he began to explain to me that RAM is an Haitian band that began in th 90s, which music is really popular for the carnival and widely recognized by the foreigners who visit Haiti. According to him eveytime he picks up a foreigner who comes to PAP after the first time, the first thing they ask for is to put on some RAM. He put on some things that day and some of the rythms seemed a bit familiar to some of the songs of ChocQuibTown. From what I understood, its lyrics have a touch of protest against the political regime of the time.
 
Esta semana cuando iba de camino al Ministerio, el conductor me pregunto si sabía qué era RAM y si lo había escuchado alguna vez, yo le dije que no porque la verdad no tenia idea alguno de a qué se estaba refiriendo. El me explico que RAM es un grupo de Haiti  que comenzo en los 90's y cuya musica es muy popular en los carnavales y ampliamente reconocida por los extranjeros que visitan Haiti. Segun el, cada vez que recoge a un extranjero que viene a Haiti despues de la primera vez, lo primero que le piden al subir al carro es que ponga un poco de RAM. Ese día el puso unas canciones y algunos ritmos se me hicieron un poco similares a aquellos que tienen las canciones de ChocQuibTown  Por lo que entendi, las letras de sus canciones tiene un tono de protesta contra el regimen politico de la epoca.
